Blog Feature: Idestudiet

I would like to welcome my very first blog feature handmade artist Pia Barksdale from Idestudiet. I found Pia's amazing art via her Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/idestudiet

Pia designs and makes sculptures, greeting cards, typographical paintings/collages and writes. Being creative is a natural part of who she is, which is why she have chose her business name Idestudiet, by using the two words idea and studio. Her wire sculptures take most of her time and she really enjoys making them. Her inspiration comes from nature and it's also important to her that her art is eco-friendly so she mainly uses recycled materials. Reclaimed wire looks absolutely beautiful!

'Life Isn't About Waiting for the Storm' http://www.etsy.com
When Pia isn't creating and designing she spends her time going to art shows, reading, travelling or simply enjoying living by the ocean. She lives her life by this lovely meaningful quote "Live simply, embrace diversity, laugh often and love deeply."

'A Mothers Love' http://www.etsy.com
I asked Pia what her advice would be to others artists or crafters just starting out:

"My advice is to keep at it if you really love what you are doing. I believe that when an artist puts their heart and soul into their art it will be beautiful and eventually someone will see that and buy it. Also, remember – not everyone will love your particular stile and that's ok too. Art has to do with feelings so stick to what makes you feel great and the rest will follow with hard work."

To see more of Pia's beautiful wire sculptures and artworks visit her website http://www.idestudiet.dk/
And you can follow her on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/Idestudiet

Thanks Pia! I am proud to be able to share your amazing artwork :)

Photography

I absolutely love beautiful photos and my fiance is a keen photographer. It works well for me because he kindly takes many lovely photos I can paint for my online store. So I just wanted to share a few of his photos. I keep suggesting to him he should open up an online store, as he is very talented!

Baking Holiday

As yesterday was a public holiday and I had decided to give myself a nice rest from Etsy and painting, I decided to attempt to bake some healthy snacks (If theres nothing else to eat I head to the chocolate tin!) Now I must admit I am a terrible cook, so with a little help from my partner they came out okay for my first attempt. Recipe at the bottom of the page if you aren't already put off by my pics :) They do taste really good!

Almond Meal & Goji Berries Energy Bars

Ingredients:

2 C. almond meal
1 C. rolled oats
1/2 C. shredded coconut
1/2 C. wheat germ
1/4 C. pumpkin seeds
1/4 C. goji berries
8 Tbsp butter
1 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. honey
2 Tbsp vanilla

Directions:
1. Mix together almond meal, oats, coconut, wheat germ, and pumpkin seeds. Spread evenly on an ungreased    baking sheet.

2.  Turn oven on to 300 degrees (F). Place baking sheet into oven and toast for 20 mins while oven is heating.

3.  In the meantime, melt butter, sugar and honey in a small pan over medium-low. Mix and let simmer while dry mixture toasts. After 20 mins, remove syrup from heat and add vanilla. Stir.

4.  Remove baking sheet from oven. Transfer mixture to a large bowl. Add goji berries.

5.  Add syrup and stir thoroughly.

6.  Lightly grease a baking pan (I use coconut oil). Transfer your mixture to baking pan and press down evenly until well compacted.

7.  Bake for 20 mins.

8.  Remove from oven. Cut energy bars while still warm but do not remove from pan until completely cool.

Good Luck!

New Art New Home

Me and my partner will be moving into a brand new house next month onto the opposite side of Brisbane from where I currently live. I'm so excited! I can't wait to decorate it! So I am looking for some beautiful pieces of Art I can decorate the walls with. I am open to suggestions :) Here are a few I love:

Sunday Morning Tennis

This morning I woke up early to a misty cool morning to get my tennis racquet out to play tennis with my lovely partner. Tennis seems to be our Sunday morning ritual and I always look forward to it. I can't say I'm very good, but try to beat my partner every time! I'm quite competitive :) It's nice to enjoy the small things in life!

I'm happy, I'm winning!
